More Information

8 Days / 7 Nights

Featuring the Scenery & Wildlife of Lord Howe Island
Lord Howe Island has been settled for 150 years but remains largely unspoiled with spectacular scenery and wildlife in the South Pacific Ocean. Approaching by air you see a long narrow island with two high, usually cloud topped peaks at one end, a shallow lagoon with breakers on its perimeter, little evidence of occupation and a clothing of mainly palm vegetation which is quite different from that which you left on the mainland.

This program includes many walks, as this is the best way to experience the natural features of the Island. Some walking is on rough tracks and most tracks are hilly. Your program leader will be able to describe each of the walks and their grading before setting out each day. Experience over the last six programs has shown that the majority of participants easily handle the walks. Most walks last from one-two hours, with two longer walks of up to five hours. The Mt Gower climb is an optional and exceptional experience only taken by the very fit and able!

If sea conditions are safe we will be able to take a boat trip around the island and view the main island shore and offshore islands from the sea. A glass bottomed boat trip is also organised in the lagoon to view the corals, fish and other marine life. Several walks take you along shorelines where bird watching is at a premium.

Swimming in the lagoon is very convenient -just across the road from our accommodation at Pinetrees. The deck of the Boat Shed is also a great place to enjoy a drink while watching the sunset over the ocean.

Your Program Leader is experienced in leading outdoor activities and has found that anyone who is reasonably fit, with good mobility really enjoys the daily outings.
