This expedition to the Simpson Desert is our signature Australian Outback tour. The perfect introduction to the Outback, experiencing many varied landforms - from sand dune deserts, to vast gibber plains, desert ranges, the romance and history of the Oodnadatta and Birdsville Tracks and Lake Eyre, the lowest point in mainland Australia. There is the option to take an unforgettable flight over Lake Eyre. You won't get to park behind the fence amidst hundreds of tour buses and watch the sunset over Ayers Rock. Nor will you join the crowds in Alice Springs and Coober Pedy. What you will get is the real outback. Bush characters, remote towns and lots of wild, rugged and remote desert landscapes. After you have travelled on this expedition, you will know why we call it the Ultimate Outback!

Self-Drive Participants
You will be required to have a roadworthy, four wheel drive vehicle appropriately equipped for travel in isolated regions. Fuel arrangements and a check list will be communicated to interested participants prior to registration.
Self-drive participants are required to assist by carrying up to three cartons or packages of food for common use and a Jerry can, with water, for use in the kitchen.

Program Includes

• 12 nights camping in swag complete with mattress, fitted sheet, doona, doona cover and pillow
• Crockery, cutlery and chair
• All meals commencing with lunch on Day 1 and concluding with breakfast on Day 13
• Transport as per the itinerary in a comfortable expedition vehicles equipped to travel the outback roads with experienced driver
• Services of a study leader
• Entry fees, permits, visits and entry fees
• Use of appropriate reference materials
• Support of a motor mechanic if needed for self-drive participants whilst in remote locations
• Satellite Emergency Phone Access

• Cost of transfers to and from Adelaide
• Comprehensive Travel Insurance
• Costs of a personal nature
• Any optional activities elected by participants
• All camping equipment for self-drive participants
• Fuel costs for self-drive participants
• Costs associated with damage, breakdown and recovery of vehicles used in self-drive transport or costs associated with vehicle preparation for the program
• Tent hire is an additional AUD100 / NZD135 per person twin share or AUD130 / NZD160 per single.

Program Notes

• This program may attract a varied level of age group participation due to the remoteness and adventure nature of the program. This program is not solely sold to Odyssey members but is sold to an open age group and may include international participants.
• There is an option to travel as a tagalong with your own vehicle on this program the cost is AUD$2000 per person.
