More Information
Featuring the Gobi Desert, the Naadam Games & Family Visits This epic off-road Ed-Venture showcases some of the most spectacular, varied and historically important sites in Mongolia. Throughout the journey we will use 4-wheel-drive off-road vehicles, normally mini buses, ultimately reaching Lake Khovsgol in northern Mongolia situated amongst the most pristine forests, mountains and meadows in the world. We begin the expedition driving south to the legendary Gobi Desert, located near Mongolia's southern border with China. Travel then takes us across the rolling steppe to Kharakhorum, site of the 13th century capital of the Mongol Empire. This Ed-Venture also includes a number of visits to traditional nomadic families including the nomadic reindeer herders. You are invited to attend the Naadam games in Tsetserleg - capital city of Arkhangai province, away from the increasing crowds of tourists who attend the games in Ulaan Baatar. The Naadam celebration and other excursions will provide a quintessential glimpse of Mongolian life along with time to walk in a wide array of settings from desert to riverside, lakeside and mountain landscapes. While in the countryside, you will overnight in gers, the traditional felt tents of nomadic herders. Made of a latticed wood structure covered with layers of felt and canvas, each ger is heated by a wood stove and furnished with beautifully painted wood-framed beds. The camp restaurant and western-style toilet and shower facilities are located in a central building found a few hundred feet from the gers. Generally based on double occupancy, gers provide an authentic and memorable taste of Mongolian culture and allow you to visit areas which otherwise lack traveller accommodation. Most visitors find their stay at ger camps to be among their most enjoyable experiences in Mongolia. On one night we will be using tents carried with us in the expedition vehicles. This Odyssey Ed-Venture visits remote locations overseas and is designed for participants who enjoy the outdoors and want to experience Mongolian lifestyle. We travel on rural roads and tracks, through six of Mongolia's aimags (provinces) and stay at nine different locations outside the capital, Ulaanbaatar. The maximum size of the group will be 15 participants. Itinerary at a Glance & Site & # Nights Program Includes
