12 Nights in Scandinavia or 24 Nights with an Optional Cruise New for 2010 Featuring the Cultures & History of Denmark, Sweden & Norway
Scandinavia is often considered a homogenous group of countries including Sweden, Denmark and Norway. Our program considers the similarities but also explores the differences between the very diverse areas of this fascinating region. We discover the geology, geography, history, culture and rise of various nationalistic consciences in each country visited. In Denmark we discover the history and culture of Zealand Island in the capital Copenhagen. In Sweden, we learn about the great fighting force of the Reformation in the capital city, Stockholm, whilst in Norway, we explore both Viking and modern traditions as we stay in the Norwegian capital, Oslo, and experience "Norway in a Nutshell" as we travel by train and boat to the outstanding fiord lands around Grieg's city of Bergen. Norway is justly famed for its coastline and there is the chance to experience a spectacular 12 day voyage through Norway's fjords and untouched beautiful countryside on board a Hurtigruten coastal cruise ship. With daily calls to 34 ports between Bergen and Kirkenes, most never visited by commercial cruise liners, these ships deliver cargo, post and passengers to towns and remote communities and give an unparalleled view of Norwegian fjord life.
