The social and cultural development of Britain is reflected in the growth, development and diversity of its magnificent gardens. This program explores the history of horticultural design throughout Britain. From mediaeval Knot Gardens to the English landscapes of Capability Brown, to the modern incarnations of Sackville-West and the Duchess of Northumberland we trace and explore garden styles through the ages. We will also examine the correlation between architectural and horticultural movements.
Culminating in London's Hampton Court Palace Flower Show, we explore the gardens of Kent, England's South West, Oxfordshire, Wales, The Borders and Edinburgh, Northumbria and the Peak and Lake Districts.
