Through the Monuments and History of Iran

New for 2010
Following the success of our Ed-Ventures to Syria, Jordan, the Caucasus and the Silk Road, Persian Heritage will be a fitting complement to our travels in this region.

Iran's position made it pivotal in the Persian Empires throughout the ages. The first great empire began in the 6th century BC. At this time the Persepolis, now a major tourist drawcard, became the hub of the empire

The coming of Islam was a transforming influence beginning in the late 7th century initiating their Golden Age and the construction of myriads of splendid mosques and mausoleums several of which are included in the itinerary.

This new Ed-Venture traces Iran's history from the Achaemenid kingdom of the 6th century BC and concludes with today's Islamic Republic. We explore Isfahan one of the most magnificent cities in Persia. Shiraz in south-western Iran blossomed during the 13th and 14th centuries and became a leading centre for the calligraphy, painting, literature and architecture.

Our Ed-Venture includes the great cities, historic sites, mosques, gardens, bazaars and teahouses. We will also have the opportunity to explore a secluded settlement occupied by nomads at Bavanat, on the edge of the desert in the Zagros Mountains. Since 1980, with its stable government and democratically elected President, Iran continues to attract foreigners, as it has done for eons.

Travel is during the local autumn allowing participants to avoid the extreme temperatures commonly experienced in summer and winter. The program will be led by an Odyssey Travel Program Leader and a local English-speaking guide will accompany the group. All meals will be provided during the program.
